GLADIATOR (Cert 15, 149 mins) Drama. Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen. Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Djimon Hounsou,

Richard Harris. THE 100 million-doliar sword and sandals epic. This mus cular and bold combat film is

WIDELY regarded as the greatest novelist of the 20th century, James Joyce burned brightly for almost 60 glorious years, producing four major published works. MY FAVOURITE FILM by Richard Gad cl _ _ L _

What is your favourite film of all time? Alive

Why do you like it so much? It is a true story about surviving against the odds. The film is good, but the book is twice as

good.

When did you f irst see this film? In the "flea pit" in Brierfield with my vegetarian wife two days before flying to Thailand. She did not like flying before the film - and afterwards

she had a real problem.

W h a t is y o u r fa v o u r i te p a r t of th e film?

Two bits really stand out. The first is the plane crash which was very realistic and matched the experience of a friend who has survived an air craft explosion. The second part was the debate over whether to eat the corpses.

Who is your favourite actor/actress? Robert De Niro -
