Search is on for our Christmas cutie


TH E search has begun for the cutest Christmas cherub in East Lan­


cashire. Last Lancashire News­


papers is on the look-out for youngsters up to the age of four for our annual competition run in con­ junction with Charter Walk Shopping Centre, liurnley. The overall winner will


receive a canvas print and an engraved trophy. Itunners-up, from both


the under-two age group and the two-to-four sec­ tion, will win a canvas print.

Charter Walk Shopping Centre's customer care centre, Market Square, Hurnley, from Tuesday, November 7th until Sun­ day, November 12th. Ses­ sions will be held between 10 a.m. and 1-30 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 1 p.m. All the cherubs will


appear in the Clitheroe Advertiser on the run-up to Christmas and people across East Lancashire will he given the chance to vote for their favourite cherub. Last year's competition


was swamped with hun­ dreds of entries and the winner was William Hamilton Holmes.

T H E R E a re to o m an y accidents involving horses and riders, so two enthusi­ astic youngsters p u t their h e ad s to g e th e r to ra ise awareness of road safety


issues. On Saturday Sarah Pow­


ell (13) and Frances Whe- myss-Holden (12) led a p a r ty of 20 ride rs from Wiswell, through Whalley to promote National Horse


and Road Safety Day in an attempt to encourage both riders and drivers to be con­ siderate to each other. It is hoped this campaign


will reduce the number of accidents making the roads a safer place for everyone. Horse riders are often chil­ dren and, therefore, people should be particularly care­ ful when o v e r tak in g as horses are unpredictable and need to be given room.


As well as highlighting


the concerns of horse riders to motorists, the road safe­ ty campaign is very much ab o u t encouraging horse riders to behave correctly on the roads too. Our photograph shows

MANY people in the Ribble Valley will have cause to thank the East Lancashire Hospice for the care and support which it has provided


to family and friends. M rs S u san S au n d e rs ,


who died a lm o s t a y e a r ago, received expert and loving care a t the hospice, for which she was so grate­ ful.
