THE AVENGERS, Sky Premier, 8.00pm. In a time when everything from the Sixties and Seventies is to be revered, what could be trencher than The Avengers? Diana Rigg flouncing about in a skin-tight leather cat- suit, while Patrick Macnee plays the stereotypical Englishman with a twist. So you can forgive film-makers for wanting to remake this clas­ sic series when all of a sudden Sixties kitsch became Nineties cool. Starring Uma Thurman as Emma Peel and Ralph Fiennes as John Steed, the film tells the tale of the duo’s struggle with evil business­ man August de Wynter (Sean Connery), who is out to control the weather. If you’re looking for pure escapism, this movie will while away a couple of hours quite merrily.
