FORMER Ribblesdale High School pupil Mr David Daniel has years of experience in the food, entertain ment and licensed trades, gathered from all across the British

Isles. Now the one-time Burn ley Angels club DJ is combining it all to give

a refreshing, yet very traditional, lease of life to one of the area's classic country pubs and dining venues, the Red Pump Inn, Bashall Eaves, which is situated only a few miles out

side Clitheroe. Mr Daniel is keen to play a part in village and rural life and

old friends from Clitheroe days will be especially welcome -

hut there is also plenty to attract tourists. There was a special re-opening night on Tuesday following

a major refurbishment programme. The historic property has been consolidated as a traditional pub, complemented by

high-quality bar and restaurant food. It has a well-stocked bar with a wide range of draught and bottled beer, a roaring log fire, Jacobean-slyle furniture, bar

room games and three letting bedrooms. Mr Daniel is a trained chef who has also worked in senior management, responsible for as many as 600 staff, and few village landlords have his experience of laying on quality food and service at competitive prices. Customers can enjoy a bar snack or meal in the cosy, but spacious, 80-seater dining restaurant and function room. The Red Pump Inn restaurant has a wide

European-style menu with a varied "spe cials" board, and is open from 6-30 p.m. to last orders at 9-30 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday. Bar snacks, also offering a range of price and style, are served from noon until 2-30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, until 3 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon until 9 p.m. on Sundays. The menu caters for any taste, and vegetarians, for instance, are very welcome. The competitive prices apply also to wed

dings, family parties, presentation events and the like. Mr Daniel, a member of the local LVA, is keen to fulfil the

Red Pump's potential as a social, as well as dining, venue - so pool, dominoes and cribbage have been restored, and there is a family room with children in mind. On Saturday

evenings there is music from a saxophonist. The pub is a free house, trading with Whitbread and Moorhous- es, and bitter drinkers cherish its own Red Pump Ale, which has a 4.2 alcohol by volume figure. Guest ales are rotated fortnight ly, and there is also lager, draught bitter and a wide range

"Having put in a large amount of effort and driven many thou sands of miles working for big companies, I am enjoying run ning my own operation at a pub that has everything going for it from every angle," says Mr Daniel. He has been at the Red Pump since last June and is very grate- ful for the help of Miss

Dorothea Worsley-Taylor, from whom he has leased th<

property. Mr Daniel's sister, Mrs Susan Clayton, of Clitheroe, is help

ing to run the pub, and the head chef is Jonathan Arkwright "We have been very pleased with the response to live

music, which has ranged from Lt Pigeon to Irish folk, anc are planning more. There will be live music twice a month' says Mr Daniel. "But we are keen to boost the day time aspect and could, for instance, host walking events for peo pie exploring the local countryside. Our separate 20-seate private room is ideal for meetings and conferences." Mr Daniel still has local friends from schooldays and fron

his brief spell working at Trutex, Clitheroe. He trained as ; chef, but then became a DJ at Angels, Burnley, moving uf to bigger venues elsewhere. The expansion of McDonald : in Britain saw him learning their business in places such a: Burnley and Accrington before being promoted. He openec several McDonalds sites, including the ones in Edinburgt

and Inverness. Success with them led to a job managing Allied Domecq: ,

many and varied outlets across a wide area of the north mid lands and Yorkshire. "I kept in touch with customers as wel as supervising several area managers, and learnt how tc assess and satisfy the tastes of pub and restaurant customers,

says Mr Daniel. .

"Now the team here invites everyone to call and see wna the Red Pump Inn has to offer."
