Booth’s store helps with the Interchange

BOOTHS has shown support for the new Clitheroe Bus and Rail Interchange by giving up part of the store's car park for use as disabled

parking for the project. In addition, part of

Booth’s car park will be used as a walkway between the railway sta tion and the new bus sta

tion. The Interchange aims to

provide a better service for those who use public trans port in and around the sparsely populated and scattered Ribble Valley vil

lages. Marketing and public

relations manager for Booths Supermarkets Mr Michael Lough comment ed: "The provision of a Bus and Rail Interchange for Clitheroe is an investment which we’ve been delighted to support. By co-ordinat ing bus and rail services, many new journey opportu nities for work, training, leisure and shopping will become possible". Mr Lough continues:

"The facilities are impres sive and will provide an overall bettor service to all

members of the community, including those who do not have access to their own transport and those who have mobility problems. The project therefore plays an important role in reduc ing social exclusion in the Ribble Valley". In conjunction with Lan

Action plans swing into operation to combat the problems of Henthorn

PLANS are being made to tackle a series of crime-relat ed problems in the Henthorn

area of Clitheroe. A number of initiatives are

being undertaken by a local group which was set up last year as part of Ribble Valley Borough Council's Crime and Disorder

Strategy. Representatwes from the police,

the probation service and various First two issues are juvenile crime and road safety

community groups, as well as mem bers of the public make up the locally-based crime and disorder group which is chaired by borough representative Coun. Patricia Raw-

son. After identifying problem areas,

the group agreed to put a series of action plans into operation to tack le the issues which had arisen. Ini tially two action plans were formed, one aimed at reducing juvenile crime and the other to lobby for

improvements to implement road safety measures. The third, which is still at the planning stage, aims to look at the fear of crime among

elderly residents. Improving Henthorn Park is also

on the group's agenda and, in the future, members hope to introduce fencing, which would separate the play area and football field and cre

ate a dog-walking area. Coun. Rawson said; ' Although

the majority of dog owners are act 7 , •_________ SU1..1___ 1«o.;rwr.mof

ing responsibly by clearing up after their dogs, a few are not, even though they can be fined by the council for such actions. Because of this playing or just walking in the park can be a hazard." Until the fencing plan can be

implemented a special clean-up day is being planned for the next school holiday in a bid to ease the prob lem. Youngsters will mark soiled areas with paper flags and council employees will then carry out the

clean up. Essential Style
