Cup final triumph as Waddington strike late
Waddington 3 Intake 2
A LAST-MINUTE winner saw Waddington win the Craven League Third Division Cup at Bamoldswick United after they had thrown away a
two-goal lead. The locals got off to a dream start
when Simon Cunliffe smashed home from Martin O'Gorman's pass after only two minutes.
Ben Parsons forced a fine save before
Waddington made it 2-0 after 10 min utes. Captain Adam Spencer sent Matt
Pope clear with a long ball, and his shot was blocked by the in-form keeper, only for Jonathon Dugdale to react quickest and nod home the second. Intake rallied, and they were level by
half-time after relentless pressure. Mark Boyd came on for the injured

Brett Tattersall, and the introduction of Steven Backhouse and Mark Harrison midway through the half gave Waddington the fresh legs they needed. The game looked destined for extra-
time before Anthony Smith struck with time ticking away. Intake had three suc cessive comers as they looked to snatch an equaliser, but the locals held on. Nicholas Laxton was the referee's man-of-the-match.

Matt shines as Heifer take cup honours
1
Craven Heifer 2 Oswaldtwistle 0
HOLDERS Craven Heifer retained the Accrington Combination Walmsley Cup at Stanley's Crown Ground. The locals soon settled into their fluent
passing game, but although Craven were in control, chances were at a premium. Pinard went close and Ward should have done better from the edge of the area, but
the sides went in goalless. But the deadlock was broken when J.
Clegg hit the underside of the bar from dis tance, and the unmarked Carter headed into an empty net. This stirred Oswaldtwistle into action,
and they also hit the bar, but were unable to turn the ball in.
And Craven got a crucial two-goal cush ion when they hit Oswaldtwistle on the
counter attack. Pinard beat three men and slotted the
ball home. More chances came and went for Craven,
but they couldn't add to their tally. Retain However, two goals proved enough to
retain the trophy. Matt Day was man-of-the-match, and manager Leonard Aspinwall also received
the Official of the Year award. Craven (pictured before the final) lined
up: Fenton; J. Clegg, Wild, Day, Charnley; Ward, P. Clegg, P. Aspinwall, Blackledge; Pinard, Carter. Subs: Devine, R. Aspin wall.

ONCE again Clitheroe failed to find the oppo sition net for the seventh successive league

real work has already begun as Burgess and his right-hand man Lee Sculpher prepare for next season. The Blues first team lost 1-0
against Newcastle Town on Sat urday in their final match of the season and Burgess added: “I was at the game on Saturday and we were unlucky. “We didn’t deserve to lose, it
was just a lack of concentration which let them score.
Both sides found the bouncy pitch difficult to
come to terms with and as a consequence good football and clear-cut chances were at a premium in this end-of-season affair. The game was heading for a stalemate until a
lapse in concentration 10 minutes from time sealed Town’s win. A long punt upfield found its way into the

CLITHEROE second string are the First North Western Trains Reserve Division North champions.
A jubilant night at Shaw

. Clitheroe hammered title rivals Darwen 3-0 in the final match of the season. The Blues never gave Darwen
time to settle in the match as soon as they went in front after 25 minutes. Craig Shaw rammed the ball home after a centre from Craig Dewhurst. The Blues continued to press
but couldn’t add to their tally before half-time.
The all-important second goal
arrived 15 minutes into the sec ond period when a Jason Jones cross was headed over the keeper by Ian Pilkington. A number of half chances were
