Mayor’s uncertain future as home and business go on the market
CONTEMPLATING an uncertain future is Clitheroe Mayor Coun. Alan Yearing. He was out to take a stroll in
spring sunshine as part of his official duty to re-open a section of riverside footpath, newly laid with chippings by Clitheroe Town Council. But he and his Mayoress wife,
Susan, could soon be out of a job and home, as the couple have put their newsagent’s shop in Bawd- lands up for sale. They have had the business since moving to Clitheroe with their children,
Michael and Jacqueline, from the Lincolnshire coast 14 years ago. Explained Mrs Yearing: "\Ve
have no plans yet as to what we will do. However, we won’t be leav ing Clitheroe as we feel very much part of the community, and we are not retiring. "As you can appreciate, running
a newsagent's is a very time-con suming, seven-days-a-week job. We are not as young as we were when we first came here and so feel that we would like to do something less hectic, which will give us more freedom and leisure time."
Fine weather greets local ramblers
FINE weather awaited 17 members of the Clitheroe Group of the Ramblers' Association, when they left Linton, near Grassington, for a
walk led by Mr Peter Ratcliffe. The walkers set off along lowing a brief look at Grass-
Well Lane in a north-west erly direction to cross the B6265, just south of Threshfield. They contin ued along Moor Lane for a short distance before taking the field path to the west to Grysedale Gate. The group then followed
Grysedale Lane before tak ing the field path to the north-west. From there they followed Green Lane towards the south west to cross Grysedale Beck. They followed the Moor
ington, the group complet ed the walk back to Linton, crossing the Wharfe again at Linton Falls, before mak ing a south-westerly ascent to Linton village. This walk can be found
on the Ordnance Survey (1:25000) Yorkshire Dales South Map. On an earlier walk,
Lane bridleway to the west across Threshfield Moor and then took the path to the north towards Malham
Moor. The path continued to
the north, crossing Malham Moor Lane and then the moor towards Kilnsey towards the village of Coni- stone, first crossing the
River Wharfe. From Conistone, the
ramblers started the steep ascent of a dry valley, in a north-easterly direction, and then went through Conistone Dib to join the
Dales Way. The walk continued in a
southerly direction along the Dales Way to Grassing ton, passing an old lime kiln and a fine example of a limestone pavement. Fol-

PUPILS from Bowland High School, Grindleton, have been encouraged to "Pump Up The Vol ume" this week as they have played to packed houses. Youngsters from across the school
have been taking part in a produc tion combining speech, song and drama, which has been written by staff members Mrs Maureen Olszewska, Miss Hilary Kellow and Miss Andrea Yates. The plot centres around storybook
characters including The Famous Five, the demon headmaster, Little Miss Muffet and Little Bo-Peep among others. And, as with all good tales, it has goodies and baddies and includes something of a love story. Local primary school pupils were
the first to see a performance of "Pump Up the Volume" when they attended a special matinee on Tues day. Tickets for performances sched uled to take place in the Sawley Road school last night, tonight and tomorrow night have already sold

ITLE-chasing Clitheroe Wolves
Under 16s continued their assault on the league title with two victories
in a week. Barrowford Celtic were thrashed 9-0 thanks

to goals from Michael Walsh (4), R Tierney, C. Rush, R. Lloyd and man-of-the-match J.
Thomas. In the second match they defeated Padiham
man-of-the-match D. Dounes also notching. Clitheroe Wolves Under 12s were resounding
5- 0 victors over Bacup Borough. Wolves started slowly but a Phillip North goal
from close range turned the tide. Further strikes from Tom Hibble and Jake Chadwick before half-time put the match beyond Bacup. The second period saw Chadwick claim his
eighth hat-trick of the season while Marcus Pratt won the man-of-the-match award for his dominant performance in defence. Clitheroe’s Under 14s came away with a com
fortable 4-1 win over Junior Clarets. Adam Bar ton bagged a brace and there was one each for Christopher Brewer and Matthew Devine. Ben Frankland was outstanding. The Under 9s B team were also victorious by

thing special to break the deadlock and Alan Cottam duly obliged with a goal of the season contender.
