Mountaineers find forecast wrong - for
their destination ON Sunday, more than a dozen members of Clitheroe Mountaineer ing Club assembled on the council car park at 8 a.m. for a day meet in Langdale. The weather was fore
cast to be brig ht and sunny in the morning and wet in the afternoon. So, in bright sunny
weather, the party depart ed, heading for Stickle Ghyll car park. The ascent to Stickle Tam was made in lovely sunshine, although ice from overnight sharp frost lin

party split: Some climbed Jack's Rake to the summit of Pavey Ark, while others took a less steep route. Then the whole p a r ty scrambled on to Harrison Stickle and then the Pike of Stickle. By this time, the day had clouded over a bit, with Bowfell being capped
in clouds. The route on to Stake
Pass and Rossett Pike was wet and boggy in places,
bu t while the traverse of this terrain was under way the weather began to improve again and at Ros sett Pike the top of Bowfell was visible with some cloud high above. At the head of R o s se t t
Ghyll the party split again, with some members head- ing downwards into Mickle-
ton and back to the Old Dungeon Ghyll to replenish . lost fluids. The remainder of j the party scrambled up on to Bowfell where extensive views of Morecambe Bay and the whole of Lakeland rewarded their efforts. - The descent of The Band
