A COE Farmers thank ASDA ATDNE

Ribble Valley. Mr Hendrick is drumming up support among Euro MPs for a subsidy aimed specifically at wool produc

been produced in Lancashire for centuries, yet it is not part of the European Common Agricultural Policy. The reason l am trying to drum up support for this initiative is so that areas such as the Ribble Val ley, where sheep rearing and wool production were once a major industry, will receive a boost.”

NFU leaders in the North West have written to a supermarket chief to thank him for moving to stock only British beef in the company’s stores.

The chairmen of Cumbria, Lanca

shire and Cheshire NFU county branches have thanked Mr Archie Nor

man, of ASDA, for his “courageous” decision.

Immediately prior to its British- beef-only stance, the company was

sourcing around 25% of its beef from other countries, including Brazil, Argentina and Australia.

Steve Heaton: “Farmers in our region are very grateful for this initiative, which will continue the process of res toring consumer confidence. We would hope that other farmers will follow the lead of our county chairmen and write to ASDA expressing their support for this welcome decision.”
