rounds of 74 and 75 in the 36-hole Scratch Champi onship and his 149 aggregate gave him a six-stroke suc ce ss over runner-uo Mike Andrew, who returned rounds of 80 and 75. Chris Blackadder shot 79
and 82 to finish third on 161. Tony Collis had two rounds of 81 for a 162 aggregate and Mike Bracegirdle was two shots adrift In fifth place after rounds of 79 and 8a. The 18-holo medal held in
conjunction with the club championship was won by Tim Weir, who returned 82-16-66 to claim first place on the card from Clive Wood (76-10-66). Stephen Green finished third with 84-15-69 and club cham pion BladeB was fourth with 74-4-70. 0 Homers of Burnley came to the rescue at the 11th hour to ensure the Rover Cup qualify ing round went ahead as - planned on Saturday at CUtheroe Golf Club. Junior members filled the
first two places in Division One, Craig Allison returning 74-9-65 to win by three shots from Junior captain Daniel Preedy (74-6-68). Andrew Lund (78-9-69) finished third, Peter Harrison was fourth with 79-9-70 and young Paul Ainger (82-11-71) finished fifth after a card play-off with Ray Riley and Jamie Webster.

Having finished fifth and eighth In his first two outings of the season, me zi-year-oia Lancashire regular led them home in the Pines Trophy at HUlside GC to move up the Northern Order of Merit ratings. The Clitheroe GC star shot rounds of 72 and 74 and his 146
aggregate gave him a one-stroke victory over Blake Toone (Ellesmere), J. Murphy (Manchester) and J. Roberts (Howley
Hall). Andrew, who works at the Pendle Golf Driving Range in Colne,
currently plays off plus-one and intends to turn professional later In the year. A former winner of the East Lancashire Golf Associaiton
Harold Ryden Trophy, Andrew took up the Royal and Ancient game when he joined the Whalley club at the age of 11, trans ferring his affections to Clitberoe four years ago. The Pines Trophy success is not Andrew’s first in Northern
Order of Merit circles. He has won the Revidge Cannon and Acorn Trophy twice, and the Penwortham Rosebowl and Pleas-

0 The President’s Day com petition was held at Hurst Green at the weekend, and
attracted 88 competitors. The final brought together expe rienced Ray Turner of Ribbles dale A and young Stuart Gower ’ of Fourth Division side Castle B, who is quickly becoming one of the rising stars in the league. In the early stages Stuart improved on his handicap of plus three to open up a 7-0 lead. How ever, Ray hit back strongly to level at seven across. He then used his experience to
build up a lead of 12-9 which he further extended to 18-12. Stuart came back briefly but
was unable to prevent the inevitable.
