choosing a new Rover 400. Not simply because it has a wide range of

PENDLE Ski Club’s Race Team performed superbly a t the All-England Artificial Stope Championships a t Hillingdon. The team, consisting of Cheryl Wood, Sally Latham, Paul

Hothersall and Jonathan Heyes, took par t in the Team Rally event. And they beat off competition from all corners of the country

to make it through to the final where they were beaten into second place by a powerful team from Sandown Park. The event is a head-to-head dual slalom relay with teams

qualifying for the knockout stages through a league system. The Pendle squad beat teams from Yorkshire, the Midlands and the South West to reach the quarter-final where they beat

the Arrows team from Swadlincote. Their most exciting performance came in the semi-final. The Pendle team raced brilliantly to beat a strong Ravens

team from Sunderland by about the length of a ski. The team is a credit to Pendle Ski Club coach Lawrence Wood, who is always delighted to welcome new members of

all ages to the racing squad. Our picture shows the team with Lawrence Wood (centre)

proudly displaying the runners-up trophy. They are, clock wise from top left: Paul Hothersall, Jonathan Heyes, Sally

Latham and Cheryl Wood. 9 Racing Team member Jonathan Heyes (15) has been re selected as a member of the 1996-97 England All-Alpine Squad, and is now getting down to some serious training. At the All-England Championships, Jonathan was awarded

the Tim Reader Memorial Trophy, which is presented annu ally by the English Ski Council to the most improved English

junior ski racer. Trophy time for pool players r t lT H E R O E ANT) D I S T R IC T
