Top-of-the-world feeling for

CLITHEROE climbers reached new heights I to view the breathtaking Scottish landscape during a trip with Burnley Mountaineering

mountaineers Club.

f o r o r g a n i s t

CLITHEROE welcomed Walsall civic organist Mr Harold Britton to a Clith- croe Parish Church Organ Society concert. The concert opened with

the Fantasie from Hindes- mith’s First Sonata and Bach’s Dorian Toccata and Fugue. • In contrast came the

delicate sounds of Mozart’s Sonata in C Major, fol lowed by a stunning per formance of Guilmant’s Fifth Organ Sonata. After the interval, there

dub’s members who spent a weekend in the Scottish village 'of Kilim, a settle ment steeped in Scotland’s mystical past.

most popular walk was up the snow-topped moun tains of Ben Lawyers and Ben Glass. Fortunately the snow was compacted, making the going easier for th e w e l l-eq u ip p ed 1

mountain tops, members saw the famous Tarmacan top. It takes its name from a Scottish bird, which has white plumage in the win ter. Even though the ridge was lower than that of Ben |

Lawyers, it was still a sp e c ta cu la r walk for members.

Wales was another des

tination for the club in the spring season. They went to the Llangollen area,

walking from the Horse shoe Pass and along the Offas Dyke path. The day’s weather was

not kind to the walkers. However, members found that even walking in wet conditions is acceptable if I the scenery is as good as it was in Wales. The day fin ish ed w ith su n sh in e , allowing everyone to dry off and have refreshments. Members also enjoyed a

trip to Keswick, where they walked the northerly fells, including High Pike, Blcncathra and Skiddaw. Non-members are wel

come to attend the club’s forthcoming trips to Bor- rowdale and the Isle of| Sky. For further informa t ion te lep h o n e 01282
