Edenfield professional Keith Roscoe had no answer to Fielding’s aggression, going for 108 off his 15 overs.
Clitheroe’s innings started badly, with Paul Collinson falling early for six, but Robinson and Steven Whalley provided a solid founda tion for the later big hitting, taking the score through to 92 before Robinson finally fell to Riley.

IN a match which continually fluctuated with each side gaining an initiative with bat or ball, Blackburn Northern inflicted lead ers Read’s first defeat of the season with one wicket and five balls to spare.
That was despite Read pro fessional Shaid Nawaz’s haul of 8-54, a sign of things to come against Padiham. Read batted first and lost
run-machine Nawaz in the fourth over, Duncan Smith having him caught by Ahmed with only two on the board. Nick Marsh followed him 10
overs later, caught by Boswell off the same bowler.
Worse was to follow when
Terry Little holed out to Weaver off Hacking.

O IT was a successful week for Ribblesdale Wanderers’ youth sides, with the youngsters earning four wins from six games. The Under 11s beat Great Harwood by 82 runs after posting a total of 262, Mark Proctor making 23, and Tom Smith and William Stafford both hitting 14. •

both making nine, but it wasn’t quite enough for Wanderers. In the Lancashire Youth Cup, the Under 15s bowled out

Oswaldtwistle for 23, with Andrew Ainsworth taking 3-2 and Andrew Kirk 3-0. Wanderers eased home by five wickets. The Under 18s were involved in a tight clash with Bam'oldswick, the West Craven side finally winning by three wickets with two balls remaining. - Wayne Adams scored 37 and Ian Davies 21 as Wanderers totalled 93- 4, but Barnoldswick just squeezed home, despite Andrew Ainsworthfe 2-13 haul. • A TAIL-END undefeated 34 by Paul Craig and seven wickets from Dave Musson steered Chatbum to victory at home to James Nelson’s. I t’s five out of five league wins for the villagers, now, as they make one of their most promising starts to the season for some time. After winning the toss, Chatbum elected to bat and the middle order of Simon Tomlinson (26), Martin Pearce (23) and Ted Topham (29 not out) helped them to 169-8. Although “Jimmy’s” made a fight of it, good Chatbum bowling and fielding kept their score down to 144 all out. Chatbum seconds lost their first match of the season when they trav

elled to meet their James Nelson's counterparts at Clough Head. Their lacklustre league performance allowed “Jimmy’s” to amass 196 -8, with only Gary Clarkson (3-46) a Chatbum bowler of note. Chatbum could only muster 97 in return, Graeme Hoanan (32) and
Dave Lakin (19), the only two batsmen to reach double figures. On Sunday, it was a different kettle of fish, as the team romped to vic
tory in the Cowling Cup at Airedale. Brian Jones (6-25), aided by Andrew Booth (3-14), destroyed the home team’s batting as it collapsed to 83 all out. Then the village bats men Dave Lakin (23), Roger Harrison (20), Gary Clarkson (12) and Gavin Yeoman (10 not out) overhauled the target for the loss of five wickets.
