A RIBBLE VALLEY sports club, which aims to send its members downhill quickly, has been catapulted to a sporting high. Pend le Ski Club has
been awarded the Founda tion for Sports and Arts Sports Club of the Year for 1095, one of the most prestigious sporting excel lence awards up for grabs in the country. A £10,000 prize and a

AGM at the White Hart. Club chairman Mr Paul Wray presented awards to
winners from the first and second team squads that play in the East Lancashire Football League and
the junior squad. The first team’s player of the year is Nigel Clark
son, with Damian McKay the sportsman of the year. Second team player of the year is Ian Boocock and
Peter St John was voted the sportsman of the year. Youth team player of the year is Lee Skellern
and leading goalscorer is Anthony Jones. The club is in need of a new first team manager
following the resignation of Tim Weirt and a new secretary is needed to replace Mrs Alison Weir, who
has also stepped down. Mr Wray and treasurer Simon Bywater were re
elected , along with committee members Eric Bywater,' Peter Robinson, Nigel Clarkson, David Schofield, Bob Wright, Ian Boocock, Tommy Brom ley and Vernon Yerkiss. Alf Campbell was elected to
the committee. Flowers were presented to retiring secretary All- ■ #
son Weir, to Laura Campbell, of the White Hart, for providing refreshments and also to Karen Cock- man for cleaning the changing rooms.

THERE was a good turn out of Wednesday Club members for a walk in Gisburn Forest. Led by a v o lu n te e r
ranger, members left the car park at Stocks Reser voir for a walk through th e w o od s w h i le th e ranger explained life at Stocks-in-Bowland, an area that was Hooded in th e 1030s to c rea te a reservoir for the Fylde
