CHINA AND CERAMIC PAINTING SPIRITUALIST CHURCH, CLITHEROE, TUESDAY 1.30 p.m. This course is suitable lor both the beginner and the student with some experience in pottery painting. It is not necessary to have any knowledge ol pottery painting but il a student is familiar with


painting it will be helplul. Students will learn how to paint with onglaze enamels on china


and porcelain.


MATERIALS If you already have some materials please bring them. It not the tutor will advise on week 1.


PICTURE FRAMING WHALLEY, WEDNESDAY 7.15 p.m.


No particular skills are required, but a creative and artistic eye with the ability to use a limited number ol hand tools would be an advantage. How to select, cut and assemble Irame moulding, measure and cut overlay matters, stretch tapestries, mount prints and photographs and finally how to cut glass and assemble the complete Irame. All required skills will be demonstrated by tutor, the student will then be expected to practice and assisted by the tutor to complete the task.


MATERIALS Week 1. steel rule, craft knife with replacement blades, pencil, eraser, small carton ol wood glue, and a small photo or print to frame (about 10m x 12in max). For the rest of the course, moulding, card, hardboards. glass and littings will be required and are


available from tutor or may be purchased from local DIY shops prior lo class.


WOODCARVING WHALLEY, TUESDAY 9.30 a.m. Students will learn how lo use and handle carving tools, correctly and with salety. sharpen the tools correctly and develop a feeling


lor the beauty ol wood. The course will develop through demonstration and practice.


MATERIALS A piece of timber lor practice and any wood carving tools you alrecjjly have. Tutor will advise on the purchase ol tools.


WOODWORK RIBBLESDALE, THURSDAY 7.15 p.m. Although most ol the course will be ot a practical nature, some theory will be taught in a progressive way along with the skills. The


student will be given tuition and guidance to contruct and finish a project ol their own choice.


MATERIALS Ideas ol selected project (il any) in sketch form il possible. Pencil

Materials such as Irench polish, danish oil. wax polish, raw linseed oil, stains and fillers but not until after assessments have been made at the first meeting of the class.

An opportunity to practice exercises to improve your strength and stamina, fitness and suppleness. How to exercise without strain and eat well for better health.

COURSE CONTENT 1. The golf swing for the beginner by explanation, demonstration and practice.


2. The established player to strike golf balls and have their faults explained. The short game will be covered in detail. The course tutor uses a video camera during the course for students to evaluate their swing and improve it.

A fun programme of stretching and movement to Music designed to improve flexibility, posture and general fitness leaving you refreshed and raring to go! Loose comfortable clothing and trainers or sports type footwear. Bring a cool soft drink to sip at intervals throughout the class.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT Reasonable level of basic fitness - 'Good health'. Almost all levels from novice to international can be accommodated. In both classes students will aim to achieve basic fitness and understand the meaning of fitness and the various components which make up complete fitness.

2 SEPARATE 1 HOUR CLASSES The first session will be on an assessment class to determine the ability of the students. From here we will gradually progress as the exercises are explained. Each week the class will be steadily increased in difficulty as the students progress.

your heart and lung capacity, your muscular strength and your mobility and flexibility. All exercises are periormed to music, mostly sitting on chairs and all are carefully monitored.

MOUNTAIN WALKING AND NAVIGATION


RIBBLESDALE, WEDNESDAY 7.15 p.m. Some experience of walking in the mountains required. Navigation skills and use of map and compass for plotting and


following a high level route. Safety skills - clothing, safety tech­ niques e.g. basic survival, first aid. rescue. Classroom based for most of the course, however there will be oportunities for at least one full day on the hills.


SKIING BEGINNERS PENDLE SKI CLUB, MONDAY 6.30 p.m.


FEE INCLUDES A CHARGE TO COVER THE HIRE OF THE SKI


SLOPE Students will learn to ski in a safe and pleasant environment and may progress to the improvers course later in the year.


EQUIPMENT Gloves and a change of clothes. Skis and boots can be hired for £1


per week.
