certainly had. He said; “We could have wiapped the game up early on. Hut in the second half we seemed to lose our way a little. Their equaliser came at a good time for them and, from then on, it looked like a point apiece."

Clitheroe’s first goal - the first conceded by the Seasiders this

se a so n -c am e on 18 minutes, a f t e r a s h o r t p e r i o d of domination.

Jon Penman received a quick,

first-time ball from the right und his near post snot into the net.

Blackpool then went on the attack. Straight from the re

start they produced the mother of all goalmouth scrambles. I t seemed that eight players from each side converged on the Clitheroe goalline and played “kick anything that moves" for three minutes! When the ball finallv dislodged itself from the Ruble's cube of arms and legs it was hoofed, unceremoniously, clear.

The visitors continued to

attack and a speculative cross shot was fumbled, by the nor mally safe hands of Steve Sweeney. The ball bounced off the bar and only the strength of the ’keeper kept a marauding forward at bay, as Sweeney gathered at the second attempt.

Penman came close for the

Blues, when his one-on-one with the ’keeper was smothered and the rebound whistled inches over the bar.

A Blackpool penalty on the half hour should have produced

their equaliser.Rowbotham han dled in the box^but Sweeney kept his nerve and saved the bad effort. With the Blues losing Wayne

Howarth to injury at half -time, they also lost some of their shape. The visitors came out

more enthused and finally did equalise on the hour. Breaking out of defence, the visitors pushed forward in numbers and a first-time shot from the edge of the box beat the Clitheroe

’keeper. with 10 minutes to go, Andy

Rouine replaced Penman, but nothing more of note, except the winning goal, came of the naif. Mr underwood said: “I was a

bit' disappointed with our second half performance, particularly after the Maine Hoad game, but

if we’re getting three points from games like that then I ’m reasonably happy." Clitheroe: Sweeney, Row

botham, McBride, Manley, S culph er , O t t le y , Lynch, B u tc h e r , Penman, H e y s , Howarth. Subs: Taylor, Rouine.
