message to traffic chiels in no uncertain terms — that the snot is an accident wai t ing to happen — and raised over £200 in the process. She said: "There is more and more traffic coming
into t. litheroe and that particular crossing is used by upwards of 1.2(H) children. They d o n t always use the crossing properly and I don’t think it is safe. "I was collecting money for Children in Need, but tile emphasis was on our continuing campaign to get
the lollipop lady reinstated at the site. If that isn't possible, then even a zebra crossing would do. This
would be much safer than the pelican crossing." In duly, campaigners at the site sent a 700-signa-
ture petition to the Traffic Inspectorate, demanding the return of the lollipop lady. 1 he Traffic Inspectorate removed the lollipop lady
af ter under taking a traffic survey which, it claimed, proved there was no need for her. Mrs Devine's fund-raising protest raised i*21S.f»S,
half of which is to be donated to the Marcus Hull Appeal.

THKKK were long queues outside Clitheroe's Fdisford County Primary School the doors opened for the annual Christmas fair.

Mrs.Ioanne Devine. As always, Santa was a popular visitor and distributed presents from his grotto.
Crackers containing gifts, made by the pupils, were sold Irom a stall and these were quickly snapped up by young visitors. 'The home-made cakes and oratts stalls, tomhola and painting competition were also popular.
I*TA member Mrs Alma Pate said: "It was a joint operation, with parents and teachers working very hard to make it a huge success.”

Police moving to refurbished King Street station

u n d e r th e Civic Hall in York St reet , has acted as a temporary station while th e o th e r b u i ld in g was being refurbished. Insp. Carole Kntwistle.

p o r a ry h u n k e r s ta t io n , Insp. Kntwist le said: "1 have every admiration tor the officers working here. Al though the condi t ions a re acceptable, they are not per fect .” Insp. Kntwistle thanked
Kibble Valley Council for allowing the police to use th e b u n k e r , which was
designed as a safe haven for local dignitaries in the event of a nuclear attack. 'The whole s ta t ion has
been refurbished, includ ing a new entrance foyer and dining facilities. How ever. all the work on the
new cells for sh o r t - te rm d e ten t io n has ye t to
completed. Insp. Kntwistle said she
expected the work to be c omp l e t e d in th e New Y e a r wh e n an o f f ic ia l opening would take place. 'The refurbished station
will also house the moni tor s for Cl i theroe's new closed circuit system, soon to be installed around the town centre. Insp. Knlwistle said the
syMem would be an impor tant inst rument in crime prevention in the town and th a t people should not t h i n k o f it a s " b i g brother 's” watching.
