THE 50 per cent, cut-back in expenditure on mowing grass verges in country areas was criticised at a meeting of the Ribble Valley Council's Parish Councils’ Liaison Committee.

sub-committee, extended a welcome to the audience, which included county chair man Mrs K. Lupton and other WI officials. Afterwards there was a
break for refreshments provi ded by Whalley WI.
A FUND-RAISING commit- tee for SS Mary and Paul's Scouts and Cubs is holding events in on at tempt to collect £600 towards next year's running costs. The latest was a coffee
evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Eric Foulgcr, of Bleasd ale A v e n u e , Clitheroef which made £18. About 20 people attended and there was a bring-and-huy, a tombola and several gues sing games. Raffle winners were Mrs Woods, Billington (table lamp) and Mrs A. Nichol-Smith (floral decora tion). Mr Foulger is pictured on

ONLY recently out of hospital after having a foot operation, Mrs Elizabeth Wells was, nevertheless, able to join more than 50 of her friends from the Henthom sheltered accommodation at their annual Christmas party. Aged 88, Mrs Wells was the
oldest guest at the party, organised by warden Mrs Dorothy Thoburn. Also at the party, at St Paul’s Church hall, were Mr M. Hartford, Ribble V a lley Housing Manager and Coun. Mrs Beryl H. Cassidy. Entertainment was provided by pianist Mr Bob Watmough and singers Miss Pamela Duckworth and Mr Ian Goulding.
