THE village hall at Bolton- by-Bowland — festooned with seasonal decorations and a tree donated by Mrs Marjorie Heaton, of Closes Hall — echoed to the merry sounds of children’s voices on Saturday. The occasion was the

annual children's party organised by the village’s Christmas party committee with funds raised over the year by donations and events such as jumble sales. Games for the 90 children

were organised by Mr Terry Pope and piano music was provided by Pauline Wright and Norma Birch. There was a sit-down tea and at the end o f the. afternoon Father Christmas arrived with a gift for every guest.

A STATEMENT from the Clitheroe Liberal Association in last week's paper criticising the sale of council houses at a discount was wrongly attri buted to Mrs J. Reese of Longridge. The statement was, in fact, made by her husband, Mr D. J. Reese, acting chairman of the associ ation’s executive. We apolog ise for any embarrassment to Mrs Reese, who serves as an Independent on the Ribble Valley Council and- is not an active member of any political party.

team captain Catherine Hobson. With them are, from the left, school fire officer Mr Bob Barlow, Ian, Catherine Hindle and Anthony.

INCREASE IN BLOOD DONORS

TWELVE new donors were among the 167 who attended the National Blood Transfu sion Service’s final visit of the year to Clitheroe on Saturday. Led by Dr R. E. Heaton, of Worston House, Worston, the team from Lancaster held a morning and an afternoon session, attendance being above the national average. There were 80 donors , in the morning and 87 hr1 the after noon. Miss Judith Crossley, of

Mearley Cottage, Mearley, received a silver award for 25 donations from Mr Bernard. Sharpies, panel organiser, and Toe H representative. Two donors — Mr F. McNab, of Barrow, and Mr F. J. Cornish, of Gisbum — have now made 60 donations each. S t John Am b u lan c e
