E L EV EN -Y EA R -O LD Morag Stalker provided the music when her mother held a coffee evening in aid of Whal- ley Catholic Ladies’ Guild. Morag plays the organ at

Whalley Catholic Church first Mass every Sunday, so she was the ideal person to play the music for carol singing. The evening was held at the

home of Mrs Beryl Stalker, of Ciitheroe Road, Whalley. There was a bring-and-buy

and cake stall, and a raffle helped to boost funds. Coffee was served by Mrs Stalker and helpers both from the Guild and outside. About £70 was raised and

th is will go towards the Catholic Hall fund.

Higher weekend swim charges unfair to some

A SURVEY of user of the Ribblesdale Pool is to be carried out in the New Year, following complaints at the Ribble Valley Parish Councils’ Liaison Committee meeting that the higher ’ weekend charges might discourage swimmers from rural districts. Parish representatives felt use at weekends does not jus-

acknowledged that the Recre ation Committee, in its latest round of price increases, had made some gesture towards equating the charges. But it was felt it had not gone the full distance and asked it to look into the matter again.

$ PERFECT DAY AT GRINDLETON

THE CHILDREN of Chatburn should have a rip- , roaring Christmas party thanks to the efforts of the teachers at the village C E School.

They organised an event at the weekend which

raised more than £100, and the money will go towards a party for the children today.

Top attraction in the school hall was a 'Father

Christmas grotto. There were several stalls — toys, cakes, groceries, good as new and books.

Seasonal songs and items on the recorder were given

by the junior children seen in our picture. Pianist for the evening was Mrs B. Strickland, and

Wiseman (Christmas cake) and J. Pilkington (steak to the value of £2). The headmaster, Mr H. E. Bodcn, thanked all who

parents and friends joined in the well known carols. Prizes were won by Mr A. Frankland (wine), Mrs C.

had helped to make the evening a success and the teachers, helpers and children for providing the enter tainment.
