Hurst Green bungalow/plan opposed
THE siting of two bungalows in Hurst Green would lead to an increase in traffic dangers on the main road through the village, it was argued at a public inquiry
at Clitheroe.
Sabdeni farmer j weds
FARMER Mr John Virgil Wright was married at St Nicholas’ Church, Sabden, on Saturday, to Miss Margaret
McKinnon Russell. Mr Wright is the eldest son
of Mr and Mrs F. S. Wright, of Cobden Farm, Sabden. The bride, a journalist, is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs K. C. Russell, of Monks Walk, Pen- wortham, Preston. She wore a long white gown
of Chantilly lace, with a three- quarter-length veil and flo wered headdress, and carried a bouquet of roses, freesia and chincherinchee. Best man was the brideg

a senior assistant engineer for Lancashire County Council, said that in the past eight years the.1 traffic flow along’ Longridge Road had almost doubled to 2,200 in a 16-hour day and any increase in turn ing traffic would be a source of danger. The inquiry was into the
Mr Charles Derek Webster,
Ribble Valley Council’s refusal to give Mr Thomas Bolton outline planning per mission for two bungalows on land about 15 yards off the main road. His apchitect Mr David Sun
derland claimed that the pre sence of the bungalows would not lead to additional danger
to road users. The mere nature of the road
was enough to cut traffic speeds to below 45 mph. As visibility on each side of the access was at least 260 yards, even a car travelling at 60 mph would have time to stop. Referring to a recent deci
room’s brother, Mr Bob Wright, who is an interna tional motor-cycle scrambler. After the ceremony, con
ducted by the Rev. M. Sunter, the bride and brideg room left the church in their own Land-Rover. The bride had been driven to the church by her father in his Land-
Rover. The couple will live at
Cobden Farm, in a bungalow which the bridegroom helped
to build.

RESIDENTS in Clitheroe’s G a rn e t t Road sheltered housing scheme were paid a big tribute at their Christ mas party by warden Mrs Dorothy Thorburn. Mrs Thorburn, previously
a warden on a s im ila r sc h em e in Ac cr ington,- thanked them for being “So wonderful” in the first six months of the scheme, and told them how happy she was
in.Clitheroe. There were 50 people at
proposed bungalows already served three cottages, a bun galow and a small plastics fac tory, he said. The County Sur veyor was enforcing restric tions on an existing road access, and for this reason alone the refusal was unjust, commented Mr Sunderland. If the inquiry thought the
a c c e s s p o in t should be improved, this could be done by demolishing lock-up gar ages owned by Mr Bolton. This would not mean more vehicles using the access. ' Mr Webster said the deci sion to allow the other bun galow had been a bad one. He felt it should not influence the consideration of the present
appeal. The inquiry was conducted
by Mr D. S. Warren, an Inspector for the Ministry of the Environment.

Mobile office plan endorsed R O \ ISI O N of a mobile
office for the Ribble Valley Council has been recom mended this week by the a u th o r i ty 's Policy and Resources Committee. The scheme will now go to a
meeting of the full council for final approval. In a report to the committee, Chief Execu tive Officer Mr Michael Jack- son said that the council had already accepted the principle of a mobile offit'e as being the best means of providing coun cil office service in rural areas. There was opposition to the
plan from Longridge council lors who felt that the Lon gridge council offices should remain open instead. A prop osal from Coun. Harry Riding (Longridge) that the mobile office should not be intro duced because of the extra s ta f f needed was turned down.
