and visit pubs and clubs in Whalley, Langho, and Mitton, where they will do a comedy “turn" to entertain the regu

of Whalley man Mr 'Neil Rutherford. Neil (23), of Green Bank,

Whalley, has already received backing from Whalley Ran gers FC, who have donated some money to start the ball rolling. Neil’s sister, Fay, and

brother, Brian, will be part of the group, and the rest are friends of the three. They will travel round in a

mini-bits loaned by the Clitheroe Venture Scouts

unit. Most of the fancy dross cos

tumes will be hired, although some are being made by the group. At least one of the girls on the trip will sport a grass skirt of the kind worn by n a tive s of South Pacific islands. Already Neil has received

an invitation from the prop r ie to r s of the Sandpiper Restaurant, Whalley, to pay a visit early on Saturday night. If all goes well, the group,

hope to raise enough money to buy the Christmas hampers early next week. They will visit church lead

Seeks return of son from South Africa

THE father of a five-year-old Clitheroe boy taken to South Africa three months ago by his mother and a family friend is to take court action in an attempt to bring his son back home. At a hearing at Burnley

County Court this week, Mr Andrew Crane (41), of Gar nett Road, Clitheroe, was given 14 days in which to file an affidavit of evidence for ward of court proceedings. And afterwards his solicitor said that the intention was to apply for a care and control order on Mr Crane's son, Michael. When Michael disappeared

in September, Mr Crane had him made a ward of court but too late to stop his wife Mrs Elizabeth Crane and family friend Mr' Maurice Gregson from flying out of the country with the boy. Following the court hearing, Mrs Crane now has 28 days in which to file her affidavit before- the court orders a hearing.

Naturist

club’s peace shattered

THE naked facts about a plan to use land near the Lodestar Hotel, Clayton-le-Dale, for clay pigeon shooting were just too much for members of a nearby club to bear, the Rib- ble Valley Council’s Develop ment Sub-Committee heard

this week. The club in question was the

Ribble Valley Sun Club, which, in a letter of objection, claimed that on two occasions members had been peppered with shot. “This was frighten ing and distressing for those involved,” said the letter, adding that the tranquility and peace to which members of the naturist club were accustomed had been shat tered in the past few months by repetitive shooting. After hearing objections

from nearby residents, mainly on the grounds of noise and safety, the sub-committee decided to reject the applica tion, made by Mr P. Bibby.
