CHRISTMAS was celebrated to the sweet strains of the guitar by members of the Methodist Ladies’ Fellowship at Chatburn. Entertainment at the fel
lowship’s annual party was provided by Mr R. Porter, who sang to his own guitar accompaniment. The Rev. P. M. G. Hood opened_proeeed- ings with prayers and a Bible reading. Later, members joined in
singing carols, accompanied by Mrs R. Kay at the piano. A bring-and-buy s ta ll was organised by Mrs R. Turpin and tea was served by the committee.

A CALL for more protection for the local deer population was made at a meeting of the C l i th e ro e N a tu r a l i s t s ’ Society. Mr Horace Cook, Naturalist
of the Chtheroe Advertiser and Times, in an illustrated talk on deer, appealed to members to take an active interest in obtaining Protec tion Orders for them. He also showed slides of the

Girls-bid farewell to bursar
WH E N t e rm e n d s a t VVhiteacre School, Barrow, tomorrow^ girls and staff will say goodbye to bursar Miss Kathleen Lee, who is retiring.
Miss Lee has been bursar at
the school for almost 11 years and has seen two generations of pupils grow up. But now she has decided to call it a day and is looking forward to “having a long rest" at her home in Green Bank Avenue, Worsley, Manchester.
Before taking up her post at
the school, Miss Lee spent'23 very active years in the NAAFI. She was a club and shop manageress in the organ isation, and worked in several countries, including Germany, for a number of years.
The highlight of her career
in the NAAFI came in 1958, whefi she was awarded the British Empire Medal former devoted service. She recalls that a champagne party was held in her honour at the sta tion where she was serving in Cheshire.
But her mother’s illness
forced a change of job and Miss Lee applied for the job at Whiteacre. .
“It was a big change of
course, and it took a few months to get used to it," she said. "But I've enjoyed seeing young girls coming into-the school and watching how they progress during their .time here..

' "I’ll miss them a lot, and, of course, the staff, who have been-very friendly to me sinee I started." . ''
