At our table, East found a
/simple overcall of two clubs. Should he make the correct bid of four clubs, North has no
sub-standard bid of one spade overcalled with two clubs by South. West raised to four spades which closed the auction. • South is too good to make a
.difficulty in bidding the game in dubs for the par contract.

A PERFORMANCE of the'dance of the cygnets,-with the artists wearing Wellington boots and raincoats, was just one of the off-beat entertainments laid on for members of Whalley Mothers’ Union at their Christmas party.
• Known to their fellow members as “The Glee Club,”- about
half-a-dozen of the ladies, dressed as male ballet-dancers and ballerinas, cavorted about to classical ballet music, much, to the amusement of their friends.. The show, produced by Mrs Sylvia Ireland, also featured an
excerpt from “The Aristocats” in which two members dressed in cat costumes..

Members, pictured above, performed several songs from the ,

In Whalley the echoes reverberated With suspicious husbands to be placated; Though our MU parly was following on They thought it had already gone,

And “Where are you going tonight?" they said, “Of you eating turkey we've just read!”
So, dear editor, please let all fears be allayed,
■ And confess that the Press has erred and strayed From its usual standard of careful reporting Though we’ve taken it all in a manner sporting!"
• In answer to Mrs .Johnson we pen the following lines: Just watch this space this time next year!
To our disgrace we must admit Report and heading did not fit. We'll get it right, so never fear
