Nestled in the heart of the historic Cathedral City of Lichfield, The Quill & Scholar is one of those rare finds that manages to feel both effortlessly elegant and warmly inviting. Step inside, and you’re greeted by interiors that are nothing short of stunning, think rich textures, soft lighting, stylish touches, and an inviting ambiance that immediately sets the tone for a memorable dining experience. It’s a space that feels special without ever being pretentious, a place where every detail has been carefully considered.
We visited on a blustery evening and were warmly welcomed by the friendly team, who immediately made us feel at home. The menu promised refined British comfort with a contemporary twist and it delivered in every way.
For starters, AJ chose the Morteau sausage salad a beautifully composed dish featuring smoky sausage paired with a delicate white wine potato salad, a perfectly poached free-range egg, and a Dijon mustard dressing that tied the flavours together with just the right amount of zing. It was a confident, balanced dish that showcased quality ingredients treated with real respect.
I opted for the Beetroot terrine with horseradish sorbet and beetroot balsamic dressing, which was as vibrant to look at as it was to eat. The earthy sweetness of the beetroot was lifted by the subtle heat of the horseradish, while the sorbet added a refreshing, modern touch, proof that The Quill & Scholar’s kitchen knows how to balance creativity with classic technique.
