CV Osborne Jewellers & Goldsmiths TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY

CREATED FOR YOU IN OUR WORKSHOP

Traditional jewellery manufacturing we hope is not a dying art in the world of computerization.

Ever thought of how a ring, pendant, brooch was made in years gone by? How they took the gold, formed it into designs of the times. From the Victorian jeweller working with a mouth blown torch, casting pieces would you believe in cuttle fish to get multiple rings out of their workshops. There are countless ways in which this amazing art form can still be done without modern technology.

Okay, do not get us wrong there does need to be a degree of progress but there is nothing like handing over your design to a skilled jeweller who can melt that metal into a liquid in a crucible, pour it into a bar to then form it into something quite unique. We ask you would you like to see these skills die out.

The tools of this trade have not changed that much since that Victorian goldsmith to the skilled workers in the Art Deco to the Arts and Crafts period of history. To look at a catalogue of 1890 to now say. You will still see the files, engravers, triblets and setting tools that we still make use of today.

So maybe don’t underestimate these people who still have a passion for keeping this way of working alive. They can adapt so well to handmaking a piece of jewellery still from that bar of gold. Along with renovating that Victorian ring that has been loved, worn, passed down the generations breathing new life into its history. To the modern designs being created in workshops that will in time also be loved and hopefully still be worn a hundred years from now.

At C V Osborne this is one such goldsmith that is keeping it traditional, bucking a little of that technology to keep these skills alive.
