DR CL AIRE OLIVER (GDC) TALKING INJECTABLES

36

Few subjects have garnered as much controversy as the red hot topic of Injectables and yet the most common enquiries we receive at Air Aesthetics are about anti- wrinkle injections and facial fillers, so I thought it was time to tackle the topic head on!

DERMAL FILLERS

Often referred to as ‘Facial Fillers’ they have been safely used for decades, however, in recent years there has been a fair amount of controversy surrounding them with tabloids and popular magazines printing photos of celebrities who have, allegedly, taken this aesthetic treatment too far or, who have suffered from an adverse reaction.

Behind the headlines, however, and away from the controversy facial fillers remain a popular and versatile treatment for moderate facial lines and wrinkles, restoring lost volume, and adding definition and fullness to areas such as the cheeks, temples and lips. In the hands of a professional trained and competent medically trained practitioner, they are an effective solution to address many ageing issues.

AND WHAT ABOUT BOTOX®?

Although we tend to refer to anti-wrinkle injections as ‘Botox®’ this is actually a brand name. The real name for Botox® is Botulinum Toxin Type A and although that sounds scary it’s simply a naturally occurring substance that we’ve used since the 1970’s, not only for cosmetic purposes but for many very serious medical conditions including overactive bladders and chronic migraines.

We commonly use Botox® to help make our clients look more refreshed as it can smooth out facial expression lines including frown and forehead lines as well as crow’s feet, but we can also use it to treat downward mouth corners, neck bands, underarm sweating and teeth grinding.

Botox® is a prescription only medicine which means only medically trained professionals such as Doctors, Dentists and Nurses are allowed to carry out this procedure. Please make sure your practitioner is medically qualified and insured to perform the treatment as, unfortunately, we are now seeing lots of unregulated and unqualified persons offering this treatment illegally.

In short, Botox® is a flexible and extremely beneficial treatment if carried out correctly by properly medically trained practitioners.
