WHAT’S ON IN YOUR COUNT Y

ANNIVERSARY TOUR Don McLean comes to Birmingham’s Symphony Hall this month to celebrate 50 years of American Pie.

The American Troubadour has had Top 20 singles worldwide with American Pie, Vincent, Cryin, And I Love You So, Wonderful Baby, Since I Don’t Have you, It’s Just The Sun and If We Try and Madonna, Drake and Garth Brooks are among many artists who have also recorded his songs.

In 1971, Don McLean released American Pie as a double-A single and it charted within a month. Interest from the media and public sent the single to #1 in America and Don to international stardom. Despite decades of attempted interpretations, Don has always remained enigmatic as to the song’s meaning and the mystery remains to this day! He will be at Symphony Hall on September 14.

IS THE END NIGH?

Daniel Howell is back, as stressed and depressingly dressed as ever, with his epic new solo comedy stage show ‘We’re All Doomed!’

When there’s so many apocalyptic scenarios threatening to destroy us, it might be tempting to give into the gloom - but with enough sarcasm, satire and a desire to skewer everything that’s wrong with society, Dan is determined to find some hope for humanity...or at least laugh like it’s the end of the world (because it probably is).

Prepare for a night of savage self-deprecation, soul-searching, Dan over-sharing his deepest fears and desires, and become part of a community of doomers to share the final days.

He’s at Birmingham Symphony Hall on September 17. For tickets visit www.bmusic.co.uk
