WHAT’S ON IN YOUR COUNT Y CLASSIC OPERA SCREENING
Opera lovers are in for a treat with a live broadcast of the Royal Opera’s La Traviata at Malvern Theatre this month.
Verdi’s beautiful score contains some of his most inspired arias and duets, including Violetta’s joyous ‘Sempre libera’, and her poignant and passionate encounters with Alfredo and Germont. The superficial glamour of 19th-century Paris contrasts with scenes of great intimacy, culminating in the memorable, heart-breaking final act.
It’s being screened in the Forum Theatre on Wednesday April 13, starting at 6.45. The performance is sung in Italian with English subtitles and runs for around 3 hours 20minutes with two intervals.

HISTORIC DRAMA With fighting and division in the corridors of power at an all-time high, ordinary men and women start to speak out. But as the people rise in protest, who is behind their rebellion?
The RSC’s latest production Henry VI: Rebellion hurtles through one of the most turbulent periods in English history.
Originally titled The First Part of the Contention betwixt the two famous houses of York and Lancaster and labelled Henry VI: Part 2 when first published, this Henry VI: Rebellion asks if the people can ever really decide their own future.

This runs from April 1 to May 28. Running alongside this, from April 11 to June 4, is the thrilling climax to Rebellion, War of the Roses. The tussle for the English crown escalates to the battlefield and the families of Lancaster and York drench their brutal conflict in sweat and blood. As power is shunted back and forth, there is deceit, betrayal and murder at every turn.
With more battles than any other Shakespeare play, Wars of the Roses is a thrilling climax to Shakespeare’s three-part Henry VI saga of nationhood and power: who will emerge victorious?
