GENTLE LUXURY
a modern menu with seasonal, locally produced ingredients, with the kitchen garden producing many of the menu’s key ingredients. The menu is complemented by an extensive wine list of over 600 bottles.
The interiors of The Samling reflect the lakeside location, with soothing dove greys, blues and greens of nature. The Samling has 12 individually designed bedrooms, suites and cottages, each named after a Lake District location.
There is also the Wilderness Experience - most luxurious camping, with two prospector tents, butler and private chef – all with exceptional views across the lakes.
The Samling sits cradled in a bowl of Lakeland fellside, in 65 acres of woodlands, fields and beautifully landscaped gardens overlooking panoramic lake views, south along Windermere and west towards the Coniston Old Man mountain range. Here guests enjoy exceptional hospitality and comfort, with award-winning fine dining delivered with attentive but unobtrusive service. The hotel has a wonderful literary history, having been owned in the late 1800s by John Benson, the landlord to William Wordsworth, who visited monthly to pay his rent.
Housed in an impressive glass fronted space, The Samling’s restaurant is led by head chef Carl Wild. Here guests can enjoy
AT ONE WITH NATURE
Wild With Consent sites only permit one campervan to stay in each location per night so guests are guaranteed complete privacy. This off-grid camping experience is truly liberating. Go to sleep listening to the wind in the trees and wake up with the dawn chorus. No noise pollution. No light pollution. Just total immersion in nature. This innovative concept offers new and much craved-for privacy; where the luxury is in the back to basics, natural surroundings and not being rammed in with other tourists in designated campsites.
Wild With Consent is a brand new concept which connects campervanners with landowners who have private, off the beaten track sites for a unique holiday experience.
Wild With Consent has hand-picked some truly spectacular locations so guests can enjoy a peaceful night in beautiful surroundings with unparalleled access to nature and have a wonderful site in the Lake District.
In an idyllic hay meadow, nestled into a meander of the River Lyvennet and surrounded by woodland, Kings Meaburn is the perfect location to access both the Lake District and Westmorland Dales. This site is close to plenty of walks without crowds and a beautiful spot for wild swimming. Fresh milk is available from the farm, while the village pub is a short walk away.

Paramount to Wild With Consent’s business is conscious camping and being sensitive to nature. Wild With Consent hosts offer a private site on their property and campers are, in return, expected to adhere to wild camping guidelines to maintain the ethos of ‘leave no trace’. Similarly, as sites can only be used for 28 days per year, Wild With Consent is able to ensure locations will remain unchanged and the wilderness left wild.
