DE S IGN CENTRE
ACCESS THE BEST IN DESIGN
A roster of new events is on the horizon at the Design Centre, cementing its place at the heart of the industry and ensuring a buzz all year round
A permanent shift is underway in the
way we think about the home, creating tremendous opportunity for those working in design. Being engaged and informed is
one of the most powerful tools in a designer’s arsenal and the Design Centre’s ever-increasing roster of events will keep design lovers competitive and connected. Every year Focus and London Design Week are a must on the international design calendar, but the introduction of more tightly focused events across the year mirror greater ambitions and the centre’s indelible impact on the world of design. A voice of authority within the industry, the Design Centre shines a spotlight on the creativity of the most influential designers, makers and artisans. There is no place like it, and according to Lisa Montague, CEO of Sanderson Group, “it’s the centre of design in London.” Regardless of whether your tastes are classic or contemporary, there is much to explore by becoming part of the Design Centre’s thriving global community. A catalyst of creative connections, events
from design discovery tours to artisan demonstrations generate a deeper understanding of design. At Focus and London Design Week, the acclaimed
Conversations in Design series brings together A-list designers, thought leaders and media hosts. One-to-one interviews and business-focused panel discussions offer thoughtful debates and in-depth analysis for those looking to position their businesses for success in the years to come. “It’s an innovative space for interior designers to see what’s going on,” said interior designer Isabella Worsley, who attended an event recently as a guest panellist. After a packed talk at the Tollgard showroom,
renowned German designer Sebastian Herkner commented that “design is not a thing for catalogues,” and he is right. A welcome return to analogue, ‘in-real- life’ activity, is both inspiring and fun. WOW!house was a good example of this as visitors marvelled at exceptional room schemes close up. Next on the agenda is a different kind of event: the Twinkle Christmas Fair, a shopping experience featuring luxury brands.
It is no surprise that brands are keen to get involved;
events powered by the world’s premier design centre offer greater visibility and networking opportunities to a target market. “The Design Centre has made such a huge effort to make everyone feel so welcome and has created an incredible vibe,” said Justin Van Breda, who had a stand as a House Guest at London Design Week 2022. “All the designers are out, the great and the good, and it has been fantastic.” Next up will be Lighting by Design, an exhibition featuring a galaxy of global lighting brands. With interior design placing greater value on craft,
Artefact in May provided opportunities to meet leading gallerists from the vibrant contemporary craft scene. And in October 2022, the Design Centre will be able to give a greater focus to the well-established Future Heritage, the forward-looking showcase of established and emerging makers curated by Corinne Julius. No wonder people fly in from all over the world to see what is on the radar here.
