THE JOURNAL

COSY COTTAGE Designer Kate Stamps believes houses are for living, not just looking at. In her

Californian cottage, thoughtful editing of personal treasures brings character, balance and harmony. To recreate the ambience of her sitting room, start with a classic ‘Chelsea’ sofa by David Seyfried Ltd in GP & J Baker’s teal ‘Vintage Velvet’. Comfort and familiarity are key so incorporate vintage floral patterns like ‘Jean’ by Jean Monro and Schumacher’s ‘Pomegranate Print’ in russet. An armchair in ‘Tresta’, a smart quince stripe from Romo, and a traditional ‘Tigranakert Rouge’ carpet from Tufenkian Artisan Carpets add to the mix. The ’Newnham’ etagere is the perfect piece to display books, while the Paolo Moschino Ltd’s ‘Luciano’ stool and the ‘Meldon Glass Urn’ table lamp from Vaughan bring refinement. On a console, family photographs and objets trouvé are artfully arranged.

CHIC BEDROOM Balance, proportion and elegance allied with deep respect for architecture and geometry

are the qualities that underscore Veere Grenney’s work. To get the look, Andrew Martin’s ‘Chelsea’ four-poster bed takes centre stage. Add a handstitched ‘Warrior Cloth’ throw from de Le Cuona and 400 thread count cotton percale pillowcases from Savoir Beds. An ‘Antoine’ stool from Oficina Inglesa Furniture, upholstered in Pierre Frey’s ‘Medium’ velvet in safran, contrasts with ‘Arbre de Matisse’ fabric on the armchair from China Seas at Tissus d’Héléne.
