Club’s membership. She joined in 2020 alongside her company co-founder Ali Johnson, and the pair use the space to convene and work together once or twice a week. “We don’t have a studio – Ali lives in Ealing and I’m in Clapham, with both of us working from home – so alongside our studio manager Hannah it’s the perfect place for us to all come together and make the most of Chelsea Harbour. We base ourselves here for the day, disappear off and use the showrooms and then come back and do some work, with no distractions,” she says.
“We’ll also bring clients here and use the Design
Club as a central hub so we can show them schemes,” she continues, “and even when we’re not taking clients around the showrooms, we’ll
still meet them here,
because it’s a space that’s so much more presentable than our kitchen tables. We don’t want a studio, because it’s just another overhead – but the flexibility of this suits us perfectly. We always get a warm welcome and they really look after us.” The Design Club team, headed by manager Carol-
Ann Boshoff, go out of their way to make sure that members are welcomed and cared for. “We pride ourselves on recognising all our members, even if they haven’t been in for a while,” says Boshoff. “We know them by name and remember what they like. Expect to receive a birthday greeting on your special day and find yourself featured on the weekly member profile post on the club’s Instagram account.” There’s an on-the-go menu for when you’re too busy
to leave your laptop, plus a changing roster of home- made sweet treats for special occasions (everything from cream-tea inspired cakes during Wimbledon fortnight to heart-shaped truffles for Valentine’s day). All this is topped by what many members call the best coffee in London, made by in-house barista Manuel Mociran from the club’s legendary Italian-imported coffee beans.
