Company insight

a sense of the company’s breadth. On the contrary, the Poole-based supplier can also deliver clients a range of other services. That’s fundamentally a question of size. “Being a small and flexible company means that we employ a lot of expertise,” says Catallo. “Our set-up enables a rapid iteration in our ability to provide information to the end users.” More to the point, this differentiates CBRNergetics from its larger competitors. “Large-scale companies tend to either be experts in making products or in selling them to the customer,” he explains. “We provide a more flexible solution – where we do both.”

What does this versatility look like in practice? For starters, it means CBRNergetics is adept at getting shipments to their destinations quickly and with a minimum amount of fuss. From packaging hazardous products safely to dealing with export licences, Catallo says his company presents “bespoke offerings” to customers the world over. From there, CBRNergetics supports military clients in other ways. That means customised freight delivery, in-country

training sessions for new equipment – and a deep understanding of how its products will actually be used in the heat of battle. “We want to speak to the actual end user – the operational people that are going to use these products,” Catallo says. “Because once they decide on the equipment they want, it goes to the procurement process.” In a similar vein, CBRNergetics is clearly happy tweaking products as circumstances change. To explain what he means, Catallo describes the company’s work packaging battle simulation

pyrotechnics. Though CBRNergetics wraps the equipment in wooden outer packs and fibreboard boxes – following international standards for Class 1 explosives – it also provides unique labelling options to gel with UK or US numbering systems. That, in turn, makes things cheaper and more efficient for clients once shipments arrive. Catallo, for his part, describes the response of one Middle Eastern customer when a batch of CBRNergetics products recently landed in Abu Dhabi.

“They were happy,” he summarises. “It made their logistics and accounting system very easy – especially when everything is arranged in a standardised packaging system. After all, we had 85 pallets of battle simulation and demolition stores packed into two aircraft.” With dedication like that, it’s no wonder Catallo and his colleagues have gone from strength to strength over the past half decade – and there’s no reason to think they won’t be there to help the future soldier either. ●
