B
Tailor-made approaches Growing up, ageing, strengthening the immune system, getting optimal results in sports – it all asks that extra step from our body. As an example, Bioriginal illustrates health areas with different ingredient approaches.
Joint health
Healthy joints are essential for maintaining mobility in the body. As we get older and exercise excessively or suffer from arthritis, the self-repair of cartilage in the body is insufficient compared with the breakdown. Insufficient cartilage can cause inflammation and pain in the joints. ■ AvoVida – Bioriginal’s branded unsaponifiable extract. The proprietary blend consists of phytosterols from avocado and soy unsaponifiables. Several clinical studies have proven its effect on the stimulation of cartilage production and decreasing breakdown of cartilage.
■ Borage oil – a natural seed oil rich in GLA (Gamma Linoleic Acid). The body produces eicosanoids from GLA, which is a hormone-like substance with an anti-inflammatory effect. The effect of GLA supplementation is researched widely and is linked to reduction of joint inflammation.

What you eat nourishes your skin and certain ingredients can offer support. ■ BioVin Advanced – a unique red wine extract from premium red grapes, abundant in polyphenols and transresveratrol. Resveratrol is a powerful anti-oxidant, researched for its effects in protecting skin components like collagen to oxidation, which can lead to tightening and skin-moisturising effects.
■ CocoaNol – a cocoa flavanol powder made through a proprietary extraction technique. CocoaNol is standardised to 20% flavanols. The flavanols can protect the skin against oxidation reactions and UV light and may combat signs of ageing by improving skin elasticity.
Cognitive health
Nootropics, characterised by a direct functional activation of the higher integrative brain mechanisms, are growing at speed. Both DHA and MCT fatty acids are well- known nootropic ingredients. ■ AlgalPure DHA algal oil – an odourless vegan oil. It is fully loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. The refined oil contains
minimally 40% DHA and is suitable for many applications.
■ MCT oil – rich in medium chain fatty acids, which can be converted to ketones in the body. Next to glucose, ketones are the only fuel for the brain. Bioriginal’s coconut-based MCT oil is flavourless and odourless, and is therefore versatile in use.
