is not just the maritime industry that faces this risk. All sectors incur the threat of having impaired employees, but for safety-critical industries, such as the maritime sector, the consequences could prove to be the most serious.
Dräger is the world-leading manufacturer of drug and alcohol-testing equipment, and is associated with Resmar, an expert in marine fire safety. Its equipment is among a very small group of devices that have been tested and approved by the Home Office, meaning that they can be supplied to the UK’s police forces. In fact, Dräger supplies the majority of police forces in the UK and globally with screening devices. The company’s drug-screening devices are able to test for up to eight of the most commonly abused drugs, including cannabis, cocaine and opiates. Dräger’s drug-screening devices use saliva as the test matrix, making the screening process much less invasive than screening using urine. Testing with saliva also means that users
are testing for the presence of active drug compounds, which have a direct effect on the central nervous system and not the inactive metabolites of a drug. This means that by using saliva employers are testing to see if an employee is currently under the influence of drugs.

created by T-ISS has a longer durability than your average PVC sign and is flame retardant. It is a high-quality, environmentally friendly material, that is completely recyclable and has a much longer lifespan than the PVC safety signs currently used. Under the IMO regulation, the use of PVC material is almost completely banned. The reason is obvious; PVC is highly flammable and contains halogens, which spread very toxic and harmful smoke in case of fire. Furthermore, PVC signs are not UV-resistant and will become yellowish and discolour over time, which negatively affects the high attention value and purpise of the signage. T-ISS SafeSign Pet-X signs have the appearance of the much more expensive polycarbonate and/or acrylic, but at the cost of a regular PVC sign.
The company has developed a special production method in which the colours are printed on the back instead of directly
to the front. This way of production provides clients with a clear, high-quality sign and a glossy finish, which is easy to clean and does not discolour – not even in outdoor applications.
All the photoluminescent materials and safety signs from T-ISS have a higher concentration of photoluminescent material than the amount legally prescribed and required. As a result, all
photoluminescent materials are DNV certified with a 5-year guarantee against discolouring and photoluminescent properties. If you are looking for high- quality individual signs or a complete inventory and implementation of the correct safety signage, according to legislation and regulations, turn to T-ISS for practical solutions. The signage company also has an extensive international network at its disposal to ensure the service is always as efficient as possible.
