Europe’s tourism recovery continues despite economic challenges

Despite economic headwinds, Europe’s tourism industry continues to rebound, with arrivals nearly 95% of 2019 levels. A quarter of destinations reporting data have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels. These figures come from the ‘European

Tourism: Trends & Prospects’ report for Q2 of 2023, providing in-depth analysis of the latest tourism trends and macroeconomic developments in the region.

Miguel Sanz, president of ETC, stated: “It is encouraging to witness the robust

recovery of international tourist arrivals in the first half of 2023. European destinations must now prepare to manage the increased demand and the return of travellers effectively. Tourism strategies should embrace the concept of travel dispersal, enabling destinations to address overcrowding while spreading the benefits of tourism to less-visited areas. Tourism can and should be a catalyst for social, economic, and sustainable progress.”
