SMTS donates to well-being charity

Stewart Milne Timber Systems (SMTS) has donated timber offcuts to local Witney charity, Guideposts Trust, in a first step in the organisation’s fruitful new charity partnership.
Guideposts Outdoor Wellbeing Hub received its first delivery of wood from the offsite timber frame manufacturer last month, which will be used in gardening and woodwork classes at Guideposts Dig ‘n’ Grow service for adults with learning difficulties, as well as Guideposts Dreamcatchers Forest School for young people with additional needs. As the partnership continues, the donated wood from Witney based SMTS will be used to make raised beds for Dig ‘n’ Grow attendees to grow plants, flowers and vegetables; as well as in woodworking classes, which help to develop skills such as dexterity while providing the opportunity for participants to connect with nature.
ETS sponsor Three Peaks Tandem Challenge
Engineered Timber Solutions (ETS) loves to support a challenge, so, when Darren Abley, construction director at Cameron Homes and two friends decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge whilst cycling between the peaks on a tandem, ETS was keen to get involved.
The ride covered 490 miles between the peaks (Snowdon, Scafel Pike and Ben Nevis) on a tandem and then climbing each one to raise money for two charities – Combat Stress and SENSE.
“We are always keen to support local businesses with their charity efforts and this one really caught our attention,” said Chris Williams, ETS managing director. “I’ve heard of the three peaks challenge, but I’ve never heard of anyone cycling a tandem between each peak! It was such a mental and physical effort to complete it but they did it. To donate to the Three Peaks Tandem Challenge, which has so far raised over £8,000, visit

The Horsham branch of Covers Timber & Builders Merchants will be continuing its sponsorship of a Horsham FC youth team for the 2021/2022 season.
The team has been supported by Covers for the last eight years as they have progressed through the age groups. This season the team will move up from the U17s to the U18s and will continue to display the builders’ merchant’s logo on its kit. “We are delighted to be continuing our sponsorship of Horsham FC’s U18s youth team,” said John Hamilton, depot manager of Covers Horsham. “It’s been a pleasure to support the team for so long and see the boys thrive and enjoy the game. We look forward to seeing what the new season brings and wish them the best of luck for the coming year.”
P&A Group smashes 24-hour charity challenge
P&A Pallets, Zest 4 Leisure Timber Garden Products and The Woodworks Garden Centre and Cafe, all part of the P&A Group, have successfully completed a 24-hour run/walk charity challenge, raising over £8,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, the group’s chosen charity for 2021. Employees from each of the divisions, covered a total of 725 miles, from 5pm on Friday June 25 to 5pm on Saturday June 26. Despite the rainy start on Friday evening, the sun came out on Saturday, and there was a great turnout with people representing every department in the company.
Those who weren’t able to attend the event did their own laps locally adding 153.5 miles to the 571.5 achieved in Mold. Videos and lap numbers were sent in from various locations including Dumfries in the Scottish borders, Ipswich in Suffolk, Spain and, closer to home, Saltney.
