SARA HOLAPPA JONSSON BUSINESS MANAGER SCA BOLLSTA SAWMILL
A few years ago I joined SCA as a trainee. Now I have stepped into the role of business manager at Bollsta, one of Europe’s most advanced sawmills.
My journey at SCA began in the company’s Early Career programme, an initiative designed to give young talents hands-on experience across different parts of the business. For me, this meant an introduction to logistics – but what truly drew me in was the opportunity to get closer to the core of the operations. Transitioning into a procurement role for SCA’s planing mills was a natural next step, ultimately leading me to business development at Tunadal sawmill. I’ve always been drawn to the role of business manager– it’s dynamic, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. My experience in purchasing gave me valuable insight into the customer perspective, while my time at Tunadal taught me a great deal about optimisation, productivity, and quality. Now, I’m excited to take on this role at Bollsta, where the energy and commitment of the people stand out.
Bollsta sawmill is one of Europe’s most modern facilities, where cutting- edge technology and digitalisation drive continuous improvements.
High levels of automation and advanced traceability ensure maximum raw material utilisation while maintaining exceptional quality and efficiency.
Sustainability and resource efficiency are at the heart of the operation, with technology playing a key role in making the most of every log.
Our product choices and how we utilise raw materials can make us even more sustainable. This ties directly to the technology we have now invested in. The earlier we can determine how to make the best use of a log, the greater the chance that it aligns with our plan – ultimately leading to higher raw material utilisation. We have everything it takes to lead the way – both in optimising raw material usage and in meeting the growing demand for sustainable, high-quality wood products. That’s an opportunity we won’t miss. ■
SIÂN MORETON HEAD OF SALES – NATIONAL MERCHANTS AND DIY SECTOR BSW TIMBER
I’ve been working in the timber industry for the past 20 years and 14 of those have been at BSW Timber.
As head of sales for the national merchants and DIY sector, I’m proud to help shape our strategy, drive growth and build strong, lasting relationships with some of our largest customers. It’s the ever-changing nature of the work that keeps me inspired – no two days are ever the same! Like many in the industry, I found my way into this field somewhat by chance after completing my university degree. What has kept me here, however, is the people, the passion, and the immense potential I see in a sector that plays such a vital role in shaping the way we live and build. The timber industry is often
underestimated, but to me, it’s one of the most exciting and vital sectors out there. It’s an industry that balances heritage and innovation – rooted in tradition but constantly pushing forward with new technologies, sustainable practices and a growing recognition of timber’s role in a greener future. Especially as global conversations around carbon reduction and sustainable building intensify, timber is proving itself as not just relevant, but essential.
While the timber industry has traditionally been male-dominated, I’ve always found it to be a welcoming and supportive environment. One of the most encouraging developments in recent years has been the growing number of women entering the sector, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative thinking. Initiatives like Women in Timber are particularly exciting, as they help to foster representation and create a platform for continued progress and inclusion.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent the last 20 years working in a field that aligns with my values and continues to challenge and inspire me. As we look ahead, I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead – not just for BSW Timber, but for the industry as a whole. ■
