LIGNA Preview | 33
exciting focus with the topic ‘Material flows of wood’,” said Dr Andreas Schütte, managing director at Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe eV. “Our goal is to highlight current developments in the supply and use of wood, while also emphasising important research activities in the field of efficient wood usage within the framework of the circular economy.” The Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research (WKI) and the Association of the German Wood-Based Panel Industry (VHI) are focusing on ‘Circularity in wood- based materials’. The Timber Construction Research Centre, supported by the Institute for Building Construction and Timber Construction at TU Braunschweig, will showcase various project presentations. The Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM) will also present current approaches.
Hall 26 will be the focus for wood-based
panels production, with Halls 25 and 15, 16 and 17 also having relevance to the sector in further processing/handling and surfacing. Some of the largest stands will be main line suppliers, such as Dieffenbacher, IMALPAL Group and Siempelkamp, while China-based Yalian will also showcase its technology.
The Dieffenbacher team will highlight solutions that address five of the industry’s toughest challenges: raw material supply, shortage of skilled workers, cost pressures, energy supply and environmental impact. “Over the past two years since LIGNA 2023, we’ve listened intently to what our partners are saying about their challenges in this era of economic and political turbulence
and disruption,” said Stefan Zipf, head of the Wood Business Unit at Dieffenbacher. “At LIGNA 2025, we’ll present our solutions – both brand new and tried-and- tested, as well as those that have undergone significant further development – to meet these challenges,” he added. Digitalisation and wood fibre recycling will be just two of the interest points on the Dieffenbacher stand. Fagus-GreCon will highlight smart, remote- capable solutions and systems designed to conserve materials and resources – helping companies cut costs and enhance quality. Visitors can experience the EDGEINSPECT laser-based edge inspection system first hand. Additionally, they will be introduced to other smart solutions in preventive fire protection and industrial measurement technology.
Siempelkamp will show it is transforming the megatrends of “digitalisation” and “sustainability” into visionary concepts for the wood-based panel industry. It will showcase its digital platform “IQ” under the keyword “Smart”. Visitors to the booth can explore the holistic concept for the analysis, control and optimisation of complete plants. The “control room of the future” also represents a milestone towards complete plant autonomy.
Another of the main plant suppliers –
IMALPAL Group – will use LIGNA to showcase the latest evolution of the DYNADRYER, an efficient, low-temperature belt dryer for PB and OSB production lines. It is a system that has already been installed in over 30 production facilities. Thanks to a special interactive and immersive experience, visitors will
literally have the chance to step inside a DYNADRYER.
Kleiberit was another exhibitor talking to the media at the Preview event. From the furniture and flooring industries to outdoor applications such as façades, decking, and outdoor furniture, Kleiberit’s HotCoating has successfully established itself worldwide. Kleiberit will unveil a world-first roll-to-roll
system capable of coating sheet materials with thicknesses up to 12mm. This high- performance industrial machine, with a working width of up to 1600mm, achieves processing speeds of up to 60m per minute. Another talking to the media was Into Chemicals, a flame-retardant innovator which is active in a number of industries. At LIGNA, it will launch a new flame-retardant additive for MDF. According to the company, its technology is designed to give treated panels an improved internal bond strength, compared to other FR additives. The company is also active in solid timber flame retardants.
Hymmen was also at the Media Preview and has increased its stand space at LIGNA this year. It will have an immersive stand featuring a timber house, where it will present Hymmen technologies and industry intelligence solutions to manufacturers of flooring, furniture and laminates. The lounge seating areas are placed on digitally decorated and textured flooring (JUPITER and Digital Lacquer Embossing DLEplus) from producers around the world. Surfaces that have been run through Hymmen systems are installed in a kitchen unit. Please read on to view individual company Preview submissions. ●
