there are loads to be lifted. Is the simple hook, unaided by anything below it, becoming a minority niche tool? Perhaps unlikely; there are still very many loads for which a hook, plain and unadorned, works as well as it has done for a thousand years. But equally, there are just as many loads where something a bit more specialised delivers results. There are certainly plenty of such devices available.
