SHOW PREVIEW | BREAKBULK EUROPE

A BREAK CATCHING

Breakbulk Europe marks its 20th anniversary this year – and is promising to be bigger than ever. DLM previews some of the exhibitors you won’t want to miss.

T

o mark 20 years of bringing the project cargo and breakbulk community together, the organisers of Breakbulk Europe

are promising this will be the best event to date. It will certainly be the biggest, with more than 600 exhibitors from 125 countries, and over 11,000 visitors expected to attend. Billed as the ultimate networking platform to grow your connections, generate new business and strengthen key existing relationships, there is plenty to see and do. If you’re new to the industry, here’s a quick summary: Breakbulk Europe brings together industry experts from across the board, ranging from leading engineering, procurement and construction firms (EPCs) and energy companies to specialised carriers and global forwarders shaping the future of project cargo. You’ll have

the opportunity to gain their insights into emerging trends, key challenges and new opportunities within the market. Breakbulk Europe 2025 will take place

on 13-15 May, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The venue is Rotterdam Ahoy, Ahoyweg 10. The main attraction is the huge number of exhibitors gathered under one roof, but there are other events happening under the Breakbulk umbrella.

WHAT ELSE IS ON Taking place on the evening of the Tuesday 13 May, the Green World Awards are designed to showcase every sector in the industry and the companies and individuals that are demonstrating the path forward. The awards will be presented at the Breakbulk Europe welcome reception on the main stage, followed by a winners’ reception.

xviii | April 2025 | Dockside Lift & Move Supplement There is also a packed seminar

programme across all three days, including discussions on the growing role of artificial intelligence in dockside logistics, and the importance of modernising port facilities to handle heavy lift and oversized cargo. The stand-out seminar takes place

on Wednesday 14 May. Michael LaFleur, vice president of maritime and facilities at the Port of San Diego, will ask if current electrification technology can really meet the demands of project cargo and heavy-lift transport. Expect him to discuss how battery limitations, engine power requirements, and infrastructure gaps remain significant challenges. This session will also explore how manufacturers are developing electric solutions for heavy transport, the role of ports in supporting shore power and charging networks, and what’s needed to scale electrification across the supply chain.
