Bertin Technologies: Expert in radioactive aerosol detection
Bertin Technologies specialises in radioactive aerosol detection for continuous air monitoring
EVERY DAY, NUCLEAR FACILITIES CLOSELY monitor the small amounts of radioactivity released into the atmosphere, be it in the forms of gaseous or liquid effluents, as their dispersal can potentially affect the environment. To assist them with their daily operations, Bertin

Technologies – a CNIM Group company – developed and manufactured advanced, well-tested solutions for continuous air monitoring and radioactive aerosol detection: the BAB beacons & the SA air monitoring stations, specially dedicated to each type of radiation – Alpha, Beta & Gamma. Especially designed for rapid, reliable and accurate
measurements of airborne Alpha & Beta activities, as well as Radon progenies and ambient Gamma radiations, the ruggedized BAB beacon is available for fixed and mobile, indoor (BAB-A7) and outdoor (BAB-E) applications. A quickly deployable trailer is also able to transport the beacon when operationally relevant. Operating either as a standalone device or as part of
a network, the BAB provides data, which can be instantly transmitted to a Central Monitoring System or to Bertin’s DataEXPERT 10 software, thus triggering an alarm in case of abnormal or unexpected presence of radioactive sources. As for the fixed SA air monitoring stations (SA200
& SA210), they perform continuous measurements of aerosols’ activities in gaseous effluents, while being able
to compensate Gamma background and Radon progenies. Equipped with large, high-sensitive sensors, they can measure Beta and Gamma volumetric activities’ as well as spectra, and can be easily integrated into environmental radiation monitoring systems. Thanks to its robustness and low power consumption, the SA210 is well adapted to crisis and harsh environments, when there is no access to power. On the other hand, the configured SA200 is able to identify and track specific radioelements.
Main applications ● Protection of workers exposed to ionizing radiations (Research centres and laboratories, nuclear fuel-cycle plants, waste management facilities, etc.)
● Control of aerosol releases in the environment, around critical infrastructures
● Dismantling/purification operations ● Nationwide environmental radiation monitoring. ■
