FINLAND | PAVILION

Nuclear Safety Authority for approval. At the same time Fennovoima submitted a construction plan for the reactor pressure vessel to STUK. “We are now waiting for the authority’s approval of the construction plan, after which we would be ready to start manufacturing the pressure vessel materials,” said Jouni Takakarhu, Fennovoima’s Project Director. Meanwhile, site structures required during

the construction phase, including administration buildings, warehouses and a site canteen have been constructed.

INSIDE FINLAND’S PAVILION FinNuclear says expertise that covers the entire lifecycle of nuclear power plants can be found in the Finland pavilion. FinNuclear is an association of Finnish industrial organisations. Members of FinNuclear have expertise in all aspects of the nuclear energy industry. Their expertise cover the entire lifecycle of nuclear power plants and associated facilities, including design, licensing, construction, operation, maintenance, modernisation, fuel cycle, waste management, decommissioning and related research activities.

Peikko Group is a global supplier of fastening products for concrete

structures with more than 50 years experience. In nuclear power plant projects Peikko’s efficient and high- quality manufacture of embedded components ensures projects demanding “nuclear concreting”. At the stand, ask about Peikko’s supply of empedded components to the UK’s Hinkley Point C project in UK and about the trial assembly of steel and concrete elements in SCHEDULE, an EU-funded research project.

The task of Platom’s team of experts is to overcome the most

demanding challenges of the nuclear industry. It says it provides a wide range of services for each phase of a nuclear facility’s lifecycle. These include consultation for licensing, technical studies as well as design and delivery of nuclear specific equipment. Its goal is to share its expertise also via various trainings.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland says “ Welcome to the sweet spot where innovation and business come together”. Three years ago Jaakko Leppänen, VTT’s

Research Professor responsible for reactor safety, said he wanted to promote the safe use of low-emission nuclear energy, believing that Finland has a good basis for nuclear power with expertise and an excellent safety culture. Recent nuclear innovation includes the PREDIS (Pre-Disposal

Management of Radioactive Waste) project on safer treatment and conditioning methodologies and processes for wastes, for which no adequate or industrially mature solutions are currently available. The project addresses innovation and break-through technologies and digitalisation solutions for improved safety and - including digital twins and the use of artificial intelligence for big data mining from non-destructive evaluation methods.

DEKRA Inspection Oy is a company focusing solely on

nuclear plant inspections, including include plan, structural, commissioning and scheduled inspections. It has approval by STUK for inspection of mechanical equipment and structures.

DEKRA Industrial Oy began its

operations in 1974 under the name Polartest Oy. Today, it is the third largest inspection and testing company in the world today. With its international network, DEKRA is able to offer global contacts and facilitate international activities.

Konecranes says that with over 50 years in the nuclear business,

it is an expert in the nuclear material handling and lifting business. Konecranes designs, manufactures, installs and services highly complex machinery including polar cranes and fuel handling machines for nuclear power plants, nuclear waste storage and fuel processing facilities including the most critical safety-related lifting equipment’s. Its products range from standardized conventional lifting devices to highly complex single failure proof cranes and nuclear fuel handling equipment.
