During the Maule earthquake of 2010 (M = 8.8) the dam, which is 200km from the epicentre, received strong impact. The peak ground acceleration at the dam was estimated to be 0.15g using an attenuation relationship[22]. Actual accelerograph measurements in the crest of the dam indicated maximum accelerations of 0.47g (transversal), 0.33g (longitudinal) and 0.45g (vertical), with estimated amplification with respect to the base of the order of 3.6-3.8.[23]
