SERVICE Meet the stalwarts of community pharmacy in Northern Ireland
There were four recipients for this year’s Community Pharmacy Services Awards who had more than 130 years service between them. The judges were so impressed by the dedication and commitment shown by each entrant, that they decided Ann Clarke, Margaret Doyle, Mark McGowan and Sharon Warnock were all worthy winners. Each winner displayed loyalty and an unwavering commitment to their patients and colleagues alike.
Ann Clarke, Boots, Belfast
When Ann began working at Boots 44 years ago, pharmacies were still largely paper based and the cost of a prescription item was £1.30. A lot has changed since then, but throughout it all Ann has been a constant presence, ensuring patients receive safe, timely and expert care.
“She embodies the behaviours, dedication and professionalism required to give every single patient, customer and the wider community exemplary service and care, every day. The impact she has made on patients’ lives is simply remarkable,” said Marie Smith, Head of Pharmacy NI at Boots.
Ann, who works as a dispenser, has built fantastic relationships with GP surgeries across Belfast. She is also an invaluable team member and is highly regarded by all her colleagues. “Ann leads the pharmacy team with empathy, fosters an inclusive environment and always has time to lend support to a colleague. She helps everyone feel comfortable being their authentic selves, something that not only boosts morale but strengthens the entire team dynamic,” said Marie.
On top of her dispensing duties, Ann has taken on the additional responsibility of running the mole scanning clinic in the branch. Her attention to detail, empathetic approach and patient first mindset ensures every consultation is handled with care and dignity. Ann’s name frequently appears on patient feedback reports, with glowing comments highlighting her warmth and professionalism.
