Environment friendly Atlas at Allanfauld Road
Allanfauld Road was completed over 2 phases, replacing previous high-rise blocks with 120 flats and maisonettes over 6 blocks between 3 and 5 floors. The new £12.6m development, delivered for Sanctuary Housing in Cumbernauld, comprises of robust brick facades, contrasted with areas of zinc panels to retain a material connection with the adjacent housing and large landscaped areas that complement the private amenity spaces.
The design and build project required stylish yet practical lighting suitable for a communal environment that also ensured the emergency lighting was catered for within the primary luminaire. Luceco supplied nearly 300 Atlas Self-Test bulkhead luminaires, providing an alternative to traditional 28 and 38 watt 2D compact fluorescent fittings. The Atlas luminaires were fitted with an integral microwave sensor to further reduce energy consumption in circulation and communal areas. With the corridor function selected, the sensor adjusts the light level to 10% of the normal level when the space is unoccupied creating a safe and secure yet well-lit environment with cost effectiveness and environmental issues in mind.
