Communal Lounges & Recreational Areas
Communal Lounges in social housing and residential community environments should provide a flexible space for various leisure activities and be lit at around 100 lux. A student hall of residence may incorporate a games area that would require direct lighting, a table tennis layout would suit approximately 300 lux, a pool table more. However other areas may provide a comfortable place to relax and watch TV only requiring around 50 lux, so combining at least two lighting types with separate switching is recommended. Warm white 3000K colour rendering should be considered to create a cosy environment and indirect dimmable luminaires used to create different lighting scenes and accommodate any natural light available. Task lighting should also be considered for reading or studying.
