Lighting Case Study
Alton Community Hospital’s facilities include a number of local medical services and the Anstey ward, a GP-led community bed facility for rehabilitation and palliative care. Over 850 luminaires were supplied for the project, a principal fitting was the Academy.
The Academy luminaire is designed and typically used in healthcare applications. It benefits from an opal prism diffuser with screw secured endcaps and can be surface mounted or suspended and features a central cable entry with BESA fixings spaced at 600mm, so is ideal for retrofitting in place of traditional fluorescent fittings. Numerous Academy luminaires were used to provide a nightlight facility by utilising the corridor function option, the sensor adjusts the light level to 10% of the normal level when the space is unoccupied, or no movement detected.
Other luminaires from Luceco included dimmable Platinum Downlighters and linear Climate Extra, a robust LED IP65 rated luminaire offering an efficacy of 140 Llm/cW with increased performance for improved energy efficiency. There was also a range of bulkhead style fittings used in the lighting design including IP65 rated Atlas along with Sierra and Celeste, an attractive circular LED luminaire featuring a ‘corona’ backlight effect with a direct / indirect light distribution.
Many of the principal luminaires included integral emergency backup options, but Luceco’s Decorative Exit Blade was also used to ensure escape routes were well signed. Maintained emergency exit blades can be ceiling or wall mounted with recessed and suspended mount options via accessories. Tempest surface mounted emergency downlights with open area or corridor lens distribution were also used providing 3 hours non maintained emergency lighting which is an essential element to the lighting of a communal space.
Externally, Luceco supplied the Fortis Wall Pack and Guardian Pro to provide building perimeter lighting. Fortis offers an energy efficient alternative to HID fittings with a 45W LED luminaire being the equivalent of a 70W traditional HID fitting, and a High Space to Height ratio providing the ideal retrofit alternative to existing Wall Pack installations. With CRI>80, Fortis Wall Pack is ideal for areas with CCTV and variants include standard output, photocell, and emergency options. Fortis benefits from an ingress protection of IP65 as well as 50,000 hours operational life – a strong contender in the exterior LED luminaire market.
