Bluebird Acquires Five Properties Bluebird Self Storage of Toronto, Ont., has acquired five StoreSmart Self Storage facilities in Alberta. The properties are located in Canmore, Co- chrane, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Sherwood Park. The transaction adds 362,000 square feet of storage pace to its portfolio, making Bluebird the fourth largest self-storage provider in the province.

Executive Changes At SmartStop SmartStop Self Storage REIT Inc., which operates 149 properties in 19 U.S. states and Toronto, has promoted Bliss Edwards to executive vice president for Canada and hired David Corak as vice president of corporate finance. Edwards joined SmartStop as managing director of Canada in 2019. She’s overseen all areas of property acquisition and development, quadrupling the net rentable square feet in the company’s Canadian pipeline. Edwards, who previously served as senior director of development for Dymon Storage, has been a key contributor to the company’s growing joint venture with

focus on investor relations and
guide corporate finance initiatives. He most re- cently served as senior vice president of corpo- rate finance for Jernigan Capital Inc., a publicly traded REIT that was acquired by NexPoint Ad- visors L.P. Corak has six years of “sell-side re- search” experience at Stifel Financial Corp. and FBR Capital Markets/B Riley Securities, where he covered the self-storage sector, and three years of corporate and investment-banking ex- perience with PNC Financial Services Group Inc. He is a graduate of Georgetown University.
